May started off great for science fiction fans. Sure, new standout series in the genre "Fallout" (Prime Video) and "Dead Boy Detectives" (Netflix) have been the talk of the streaming world. But in this case, we're not talking about a new series. We're referring to one of the best sci-fi series of all time becoming available to stream on Prime Video: "Battlestar Galactica." Despite the show originally airing between 2004 and 2009, its addition to the streaming platform in May catapulted it into the 20 most popular shows to stream right now, a ranking Stacker compiled using data from Reelgood as of May 6.
Surprisingly, "Battlestar Galactica" isn't the oldest series on the list. "The Fall Guy"—an '80s television series about a film stuntman who secretly works as a bounty hunter that's also streaming on Prime Video—cracked the top 20 thanks to a new movie. Also called "The Fall Guy," the film starring Ryan Gosling and Emily Blunt is based on the comedy-action series and hit theaters on May 3.
There are also some long-awaited new seasons of hit shows climbing up the ranks. First up is the Emmy-winning dramedy "Hacks," whose third season debuted on Max on May 2 after a nearly two-year hiatus. Then there's Prime Video's anthology horror series "Them," which returned for a second season on April 25, three years after the first season premiered.
As always, there are plenty of newcomers on the list, too. FX's latest miniseries "The Veil" debuted on April 30 on both the cable network and on Hulu. The espionage thriller stars Elisabeth Moss as a British agent who's out to find "the most wanted woman in the world." Also making its way into the top 20 is the new Netflix miniseries "A Man in Full," which stars Jeff Bridges as a real estate mogul who suddenly goes bankrupt. Based on Tom Wolfe's 1998 novel of the same name, David E. Kelley's adaptation recently premiered on May 2.
