Most popular movies on Prime this week

A few beloved historical films have moved onto the list of the most popular movies on Amazon Prime Video this week, including "Titanic." Starring Kate Winslet and Leonardo DiCaprio as a pair of young, star-crossed lovers aboard the doomed titular ship, the film became an instant classic at the time of its 1997 release and landed 11 Academy Awards. But it's back in the news recently due to another tragedy: the May 5 death of actor Bernard Hill, who portrayed Captain Edward Smith. The actor's passing seems to be spurring fans to revisit one of his best-known roles on Prime Video, perhaps with a new appreciation for Hill's work in the film.

On the topic of Oscar-winning dramas from the 1990s, "Schindler's List" is now among the top 10 movies on Prime Video for the first time. This 1993 Holocaust film, starring Liam Neeson, Ben Kingsley, and Ralph Fiennes, became available to stream on Prime Video on May 1. Adding to the public's interest, the 30th anniversary of "Schindler's List's" debut recently passed in December.

Prime Video audiences may be showing an appetite for critically acclaimed films in general, as the majority of the most popular movies this week are either Academy Award winners or nominees, including "Interstellar," "Sicario," and "Top Gun: Maverick," all of which have stayed atop the rankings for multiple weeks now.

To compile this list of the 10 most popular movies on Prime Video this week, Stacker used data from Reelgood and supplementary information from IMDb. Read on to discover which films Prime Video users are watching as of May 6.
